RMFI Word Day at RRC

October 21, 2015 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Red Rock Canyon Open Space received significant damages from the May 2015 springs rains. Although the park will be reopened to the public, the amount of flood damage done will require lots of work over the coming weeks and months to repair. RMFI will be partnering with the City of Colorado Springs and the Friends of Red Rock Canyon to address the highest priority areas in the park. Come lend a hand and give back to this beloved local open space.

We will be working on erosion control and slope restoration at the Sand Canyon pond breach site on the west side of the open space. This workday will require a short hike into the park while carrying tools. Primary tasks will include construction of rock stabilization structures, installation of erosion control matting, and disbursement of native grass seeds over the affected areas near the breach.

  • Minimum age 16
  • 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM

Advanced registration is required for all workdays. Please call or email to get your name on the list! Some days fill well in advance, so please register early (at least one week is suggested). We will send you an email with specific directions, maps, and release forms when you register.
